i have a sony digital camera - very nice but i guess i never read the instructions so darker pictures just dont come out well and just other things that bother
me. i was thinking of a more professional camera without the more professional price - i mean something nicer than mine but certainly don't need the bells
and whistles of a truly professional camera. also wish i could get it to take the next picture quicker. i do use a higher speed card but i'm sure the
camera must have something to do with this too. any photog buffs out there?

Pat,
What model Sony do you have? What do you call a professional price ? >$2500 or >$500 and <$1000 The high speed card is nice, but you are limited by the speed at which the camera can write to the card and the size of the image that you are writing to said card. The higher quality the image the longer it will take to write (high speed card or not).

Pat,
Sorry about the delayed reply. Thought I had replied and was waiting for something to popup in my e-mail saying there had been an update. For 1K, there are a fairly descent selection of good cameras. 1) Do you want a point -n-shoot or something that you can grow with (add additional lenses, flashes, etc. later)? 2) How about image size/quality? Number of MegaPixels / lots of noise when shooting @ ISO3200 settings (real geeky) 3) Brand recognition Nikon / Cannon vs Olympus? I can go on for hours....... Personally: the one I like at the moment is the new Olympus E-620 E-620 SLR Digital Camera with 2-Lens Kit (14-42mm Lens & 40-150mm Lens) $800if I had the money I would get its big brother E3
or E-30 but I don't have the 1.5K to 3K needed. :-(

Forbes,
What would you recommend for a digital camera that is easy to use and fits in my purse for under $250? My current one is from 2004 and my son complains about the quality when he uses it for his photo/video class. Thanks. |

Penny,
The key factor when looking at a "Point-N-Shoot" is the ZOOM - watch out for those cameras that tell you they have a 31x zoom. There are two stages of zoom, optical and then digital. most of the Point-N-Shoot's have both, the digital takes over once the optical has reached its limit (once the digital kicks in the image quality starts to degrade). With this said you are looking for a camera with the highest OPTICAL zoom number. Depending on what your son is doing with the images the higher the Mega pixels the better (but this also comes with a price... camera price and flash cards (although I did see a set of 2 x 2GB cards at Costco for under $35, used to be $75 for one about a year ago). As I have stated elsewhere I am an Olympus bigot, no naturally I would suggest them, But Canon makes a great camera in the PowerShot line. Hope this helps
